Pigford v. Glickman Black Farmers Discrimination Class Action

African American farmers brought a class action alleging that the U.S. Department of Agriculture systematically discriminated against them on the basis of race in the administration of farm loans and agricultural assistance programs. The case affected Black farmers who farmed or attempted to farm between 1981 and 1996 and alleged racial bias in USDA credit decisions. The federal court approved a consent decree creating a two-track administrative settlement resolution, and the claims distribution process has concluded.
