Apple Photos Facial Recognition Biometric Privacy Class Action

Apple · Apple Photos app and People feature · Ongoing Litigation

About this case

Plaintiffs allege that Apple’s Photos app, including its People feature and certain iCloud configurations, collected or stored biometric faceprints from Illinois users without the notice, written consent, and data-handling policies required by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. The Seventh Circuit denied Apple’s request for an immediate appeal of class certification, so the ongoing litigation will continue in district court; Apple disputes the allegations and has not been found liable.
