Government handling of forest and land fires and resulting haze
West Kalimantan Forest-Fire and Haze Class Action Against the Indonesian Government
Ongoing Litigation
Indigenous and civil-society organizations and an individual plaintiff allege that the Indonesian government was negligent in failing to prevent and adequately address recurring forest and land fires that caused hazardous haze and respiratory illnesses in West Kalimantan. The first hearing was adjourned until October 21, 2026, because government representatives did not attend, and the litigation is ongoing.
