Lac du Flambeau tribal lending settlement
Settlement Reached
A class action filed in 2020 against Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe officials and affiliated non-tribal lending companies alleged a similar predatory lending scheme involving consumer loans. A settlement was reached in 2024, under which the tribe was ordered to pay $2 million to victims, while the non-tribal companies were ordered to pay about $35 million and forgive about $1.5 billion in loans.
