First Nations Drinking Water Class Action Settlement

Three First Nations led a class action concerning the lack of safe drinking water for individuals living on First Nations lands. Courts approved a settlement in 2021 under which the federal government committed $1.5 billion in compensation and $6 billion for community water infrastructure, while related legislation and infrastructure obligations remain part of the broader dispute.
