Hideaway Hills Homeowners v. State of South Dakota

A class-action lawsuit brought by 150 Hideaway Hills homeowners alleged that state officials knew the subdivision was built over a former gypsum mine and sought relief for property damage and loss of use after a sinkhole forced evacuations. The state prevailed through the lower court, appellate court, and state supreme court, and the legal issues were resolved in favor of the state.
